    Warwick

Warwick wine farm Stellenbosch Cape Town
Colonel William Alexander Gordon of the Warwickshire regiment settled on a farm called Warwick in 1912 after the Anglo Boer War. However, it was only in 1964 when Stan and Norma Ratcliffe purchased the farm that the first vine, a Cabernet Sauvignon, was planted. Norma was fascinated by the art of winemaking and gained more knowledge in Bordeaux, eventually creating her first wine in 1984. The Warwick Trilogy, a typical Bordeaux blend, pairs well with food. The estate’s first wine, a Cabernet Sauvignon, inspired the name of their Warwick Cabernet Sauvignon, also known as First Lady. In 2010, the estate produced their Sauvignon Blanc, which they named Professor Black after the Professor Black peach orchard that was replaced by the Sauvignon Blanc vines. Guests can enjoy Warwick’s wines with gourmet picnic baskets prepared by Chef Mark Springhorn in their picnic facilities with scenic views of the lake, mountains, and trees. The picnic includes warm ciabatta, camembert, salmon, salads, and chocolate brownie with white chocolate ganache. For a unique experience, visitors can take a Big Five Wine Drive Safari that takes them through the vineyards in a jeep to spot fish eagles, falcons, and the “Big Five,” which are the five types of wine grapes planted on the farm.
