There are several key factors to consider when it comes to helicopter safety, including embarking, what to do inside the helicopter, and how to safely leave the helicopter after the flight. On this page, we will discuss these important topics in detail to help you stay safe during your helicopter flights.

Approach and departure of a helicopter

    • Please switch your phone to flight mode.
    • Stay away from the landing area during approach and departure.
    • Always approach or depart the helicopter from the front or side.
    • Approach or depart in a crouching position, avoiding running.
    • Keep yourself in the pilot’s view at all times.
    • Avoid reaching up, lifting your arms, or chasing loose objects.
    • Never go near the tail of the helicopter.
    • Do not leave any items loose/unsecured in the helicopter. You are welcome to leave your baggage/shopping at the helibase.

    In-flight discipline in a helicopter

    • Follow the pilot’s instructions.
    • Secure and manage any loose items inside the aircraft.
    • Do not stick any part of your body or phone out of the helicopter.
    • Avoid movement inside the aircraft once seated.
    • Never throw any object from the helicopter.
    • Keep clear of the flight controls at all times.
    • Do not stick a selfie stick with a GoPro or Phone out of the helicopter window

Disembarking the helicopter after your flight

    • Only leave the helicopter when instructed and assisted by the ground staff.
    • Wait for the ground staff to open/close doors.
    • Unbuckle only when directed to do so by the pilot or ground staff.
    • Walk in the direction indicated by the ground staff.
    • Keep your head and arms down while leaving walking under the spinning blades.
    • Stand in the designated spot till the ground staff escorts the group to the heliport.

In conclusion, boarding and leaving a helicopter can be an exciting experience, but it’s crucial to prioritize safety. By following the guidelines outlined in this post, you can ensure a safe and enjoyable flight. Remember to listen to the pilot’s instructions, fasten your seatbelt, keep your hands and belongings inside the helicopter, and wait for the pilot’s signal before exiting the aircraft. At Sport Helicopters, we are committed to providing our customers with a memorable experience while prioritizing their safety. We look forward to taking you on an unforgettable journey above the beautiful city of Cape Town!
