The Great White shark is a species of large mackerel shark which can be found on the coast of Cape Town. Commonly known for its size, with some female sharks growing up to 6m in length and 2000 kg in weight. These ocean predators can sometimes live up to 70 years. Seen as the apex predators of marine mammals, up to the size of large whales. Recent studies have shown that the orca has proven to be a predator of the shark. Great Whites are also known to prey upon other marine animals, including fish and seabirds. Highly adapted predators, their mouths are lined with up to 300 serrated, triangular teeth arranged in several rows, and they have an exceptional sense of smell to detect prey. They even have organs that can sense the tiny electromagnetic fields generated by animals.
